Siblingship Testing

Siblingship testing is a DNA test used to determine whether two or more individuals share one or both biological parents. This test is often used when direct parentage testing (such as a paternity or maternity test) is not possible, such as when a parent is unavailable or deceased.

Siblingship testing helps establish full sibling, half-sibling, or unrelated relationships with a high degree of accuracy. It has various applications, including determining sibling relationships in inheritance disputes or legal cases, proving sibling relationships for immigration petitions, and resolving personal questions about family connections or lineage.

The process involves collecting DNA samples, usually through a painless cheek swab, and analyzing genetic markers to compare the amount of shared DNA. The results provide a likelihood ratio that indicates whether the tested individuals are full siblings (sharing both parents), half-siblings (sharing one parent), or unrelated.
